Our team went to Grand Valley State University and competed for the first time this season. We were competing as the only high school team and placed second overall. We gained connections with college kids and got good practice. After the competition, we are changing parts of out robots to make sure it works the best it can.
On the award team, we have been working consistently every night on writing essays and answering questions for awards. Our main goal was to finish the Chairman’s Award, which is FIRST’s most prestigious award. Winning this award would automatically advance us to the States competition at SVSU in April. We are hoping that our hard work will pay off and we can persevere and win this award for our team.
Another big event we have coming up is our first main season event of Kettering. This is the first main season event that we will participate in this year, and we are looking to have another super successful season. This event at Grand valley helped us tons by getting us real experience and figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
There is still more to come for this Freeland Robotics team. Check back next week for more updates on the 5166 team.
